Our Retreat Leaders

John & Becci Wood

The Woods lead retreats at our Colorado and New York locations.

John and Becci have served the local church for over 30 years in a variety of ministry roles. Even before they were married, God set in their hearts a passion for ministry in a retreat setting, not knowing until recently exactly what God had in store.

John and Becci believe in those who are on the frontlines of ministry and know that “as the health of the leader goes, so goes the health of the Church.” They love being a part of the SonScape Team and walking alongside the leaders to encourage them to thrive, not just merely survive in ministry.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10

John uses his passions of visioneering, team building, and helpful communication to develop people who think, live, and love like Jesus. Becci loves people and is gifted in creating events and environments that bring people together. Her life’s calling is to help people discover who God designed them to be and to bring order from chaos.

When they are not engaged in ministry, you may find them at a beach, hiking a trail, or on a motorcycle. But wherever they are, Becci will have a cup of coffee in her hand! A vital part of John and Becci’s life rhythm is their growing family: kids, spouses, and grandchildren, several who also serve in ministry in the local church and places in the world.

John graduated from United Wesleyan Bible College and was ordained in the Wesleyan denomination in 1987. Becci graduated from Messiah College and later received her master’s degree in Ministerial Leadership from Indiana Wesleyan University. Becci was ordained in the Wesleyan denomination in 2011.

Ministry is relentless. We often live under the weight of personal or others unrealistic expectations. It seems that pastoral ministry is a weight that will eventually crush you if you are not purposeful about feeding your own soul first. How quickly we believe or behave or operate on human effort. I broke. I needed a safe place to be with others, along with my wife, who “get it.” SonScape provided the grace and truth and space and time to begin to unpack past hurt and trauma that those outside of ministry would have just rolled their eyes at or shrugged their shoulders. The teaching, the space, the reprieve away helped to dlear the ground and get a new trajectory for DEEP CHANGE. I cannot recommend this ministry and retreat highly enough and I will intentionally refer ministry colleagues to this resource for renewal and fresh hope in serving our Savior and King Jesus Christ.

God has poured out His love and favor on us these past 7 days. After 30 years of being a pastor’s wife and experiencing church peaks and valleys, I’ve been in need of a quiet place with no drama. God revealed to me how desperately I need to look to Him for my security, comfort, and future quest. For the first time, I feel positive and confident about life beyond the pastorate. Thanks be to God! We love SonScape!

SonScape Retreats provided a space, an intentional space, to develop the rhythm of intimacy God desires with me, His child. I came in with hurts, confusions, exhaustion, joys, passions, and God met me in a unique way. My pace and priorities were not rightly ordered and this week allowed me to recognize that and intentionally seek a better way of living – a more abundant life.
